Patch Update! (Fixing the goofs that people found)
Releasing a thing, having people point out all the goofs, feeling embarrassed and staying up till 1am to get them all stamped out in 1 go so you can go to bed peacefully-
IMMA REAL GAME DEV NOW!
But fer real, all of you on both reddit & itch.io have been so kind and polite in pointing out all the typos and mistakes and I'm so grateful for the input. Whenever I made a comic I feel like I could never get any honest feedback about them, especially the art. I only ever have my immediate friends & family to give me immediate feedback on my art. Very few of them are artists and none of them are comic artists, & because they got so little exposure online they don't get many comments to begin with.
So I felt like I never got any meaningful feedback on how to improve as an artist, and it felt like my ability to illustrate comics has stagnated, which is deeply frustrating for someone who feels like their art isn't good enough to begin with. I don't know what it is about games though, people are a lot more willing to critique the work. Just look at general gaming discourse, or the entire cottage industry of online rage reviewers who think 'media literacy' is part of the SJW agenda.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that games have to be interacted with instead of passively absorbed like traditional media. I think all of us would be immediately annoyed if our lawn mower didn't work, but most of us wouldn't care if a song was just mid (especially if we weren't paying attention to it in the first place. )
But I'm starting to ramble. I'm so thankful of the input you all have provided me. Not only does it help me grow and improve, but it shows me you cared enough about this game to notice those quirks in the first place. I think this is going to be the only major update to the game. (Unless people point out more egregious bugs that ruin the intended experience.) I'm a type of arist thats restlessly creative; I wanna make something, then finish it as soon as possible because I'm already in love with another idea I wanna start working on.
Besides, this specific project was just a test pilot anyways. Even if there's still some jank to it, I think it's important for the historical record to show the vintage first attempt in all it's imperfections. That's also why I'm keeping the first draft still up on the dedicated metroid RPG website.
I'm in the process of play testing my next game book. It is also a fan project, it is also nintendo related, & it's something that is far more popular than Metroid, but that's all I'm gonna say about it for now. Expect updates in January 2025. In the meantime you can check out my comics at patreon.com/elonyx
